Feng Chen Wang is a London based menswear label founded by Fengchen Wang in 2015, after graduating from the Royal College of Art’s prestigious Fashion Menswear MA.
With a strong focus on technical outerwear, Wang’s garments range from the relatively minimal with a forward-thinking functionality, to the boldly conceptual and wholly futuristic. Each collection is inspired by Wang’s life experiences and social interactions – tackling subject matter both deeply intimate, and widely relatable. In a style that has become signature, this subject matter is directly spelled out in each collection through simple word choices that are boldly embroidered across garments.
Wang made her runway debut at New York Fashion Week for Spring/Summer ’16 through VFiles Runway with ‘Love and Life’ – a collection based around her father’s Cancer diagnosis and survival. Returning for a second season as part of MADE Fashion Week at Milk Studios, Autumn/Winter ’16’s ‘I am a Man’ focused on coming-of-age strength and inner freedom. In February 2016 the brand was nominated for the LVMH Prize, and four months later showed at London Collections: Men as part of Fashion East and Topman’s Spring/Summer ‘17 MAN show. Marking this support, the Spring/Summer ’17 collection explores connectivity in the digital age, celebrating the unexpected connections that have lead the brand to this point. The concept is most clearly illustrated through lopped cables that run through the openings of garments, manipulating their structure, or otherwise connecting them to one-another in tangled knots.
